The JuFLT website is up and running

Motivation

The project "Journey upstream the Flow of Light and Time" (JuFLT) has the purpose of arousing people's awareness of the camera technology advancements (rather than taking them for granted) and guiding people to learn taking photos manually in a progressive and systematic way (rather than getting fragments of advices without a coherent context).

The project slogan is "In-depth look into great vintage cameras", which describes how the purpose will be achieved. I collected more than 40 cameras, and each representing some technological breakthroughs in camera history. I will try my best to get as many sources of information as possible to come up with something more condensed and meaningful.

I plan to make videos on these cameras to tell the stories as the main outcome format of this project, because it can help this project to reach a wider audience. But making video alone is not enough for achieving the purpose
  1. Video is a highly unstructured form of information (or, speaking in an intuitive sense, you can hardly use Ctrl/⌘+F to locate something you need while watching a video).
  2. A script is needed in preparing a video, and if it is well-written, it can be published independently.
  3. My collection may continue to grow and I need a location to dynamically update information. Re-rendering video every time is obviously not a smart move.
Based on these considerations, I've now set up the website for JuFLT at https://juflt.sjhstone.cn. The website will continue to evolve as time goes by.

What to see and what to expect

  • Complete list of collected items, including cameras and accessories.
    • Short description
    • Product photo
    • Link to related materials
    • (TODO) Sample photo library
    • (TODO) 3D/360 model of collected item
  • Collection guide for camera technology enthusiasts
  • In-depth review articles
  • Errata and supplementary information for published videos

Implementation

Up till now, the website is purely static, using a static JSON file as a "database" and the website content is mostly rendered by browsers. In this way, the website can be hosted using super cheap server plans and can be easily modified on-the-go.
